The field
of radiology includes several sub disciplines such as nuclear medicine. Wessam Bou-Assaly was a Fellow of Nuclear Medicine and PET CT at the Indiana
University, School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship program in 2007 and
began working at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is an
experienced radiologist who studied nuclear medicine as well as neuroradiology.
If you want to become a professional in nuclear medicine, you will need a very
specific education.
The first
step to entering the field of nuclear medicine is to earn a bachelor’s degree.
You should study biology, chemistry, or you should enroll in a pre-medical
program. In order to become a nuclear medicine professional, you will need to
earn a medical degree. After you complete your undergraduate program, you will
need to apply to medical school. This involves taking the Medical College
Admission Test (MCAT), and finding a program that will help you move on to
radiology.
While you
are in medical school, you will focus on the fundamentals of medicine and
clinical practice. You will not be able to begin studying radiology in depth
until you enter a residency program. After you earn your medical degree, you
will need to find a radiology residency program. Look for hospitals that have
good radiology departments. Once you complete your residency, you can begin
studying nuclear medicine as a fellow. A fellowship program in nuclear medicine
generally takes one to two years. Wessam Bou-Assaly completed his fellowship
program through the Indiana University, School of Medicine.
